7th Annual 2014 Roots Picnic Highlight Recap by Okayplayer (Video)

"It’s one thing for us to tell you that Roots Picnic 2014 was the best Roots Picnic ever. We did our best to capture in words the experience of seeing Snoop Dogg and The Roots, for  instance, being joined onstage by rap legend Doug E. Fresh for the craziest rendition of “Lodi Dodi” yet performed; of being knocked aside by Mr. Wonderful himself Action Bronson as he climbed the sound-tent, King Kong style, to continue his set from the top of the beer truck; of seeing Janelle Monáe’s energy level go from superhuman to supernova as she fed off a crowd that knew every lyric to every song; of witnessing Biz Markie give up on his live singalong of “Just A Friend” to bruk whine and rub his naked belly while Rahzel beatboxed a dancehall rhythm; of watching people’s faces when they saw Roman GianArthur rip into his guitar for the first time; of hearing the roar as The Roots took the stage; of seeing…well, you get the idea. But as I hopefully demonstrated with that last sentence, a long-ass string of words is no substitute for hearing the roar, feeling the energy and witnessing the belly for yourself. Without further preamble, then, we are proud to unveil the official OKP TV video recap of Roots Picnic 2014, which is as close as you can get to being there without a ticket, as close as 3 dimensions of media can capture (time, kids, time is the 4th dimension. Smell is the 5th dimension. I think.) Watch below and stay tuned for a breakout of the most memorable song of the entire festival–feel free to guess which one it is). The video of course, cannot capture the feeling of being shoved aside by Action Bronson, but for a small fee I will be happy to come to your house, wave an icee under your nose and then push you off the couch while you watch."
